Offshore and Marine Cable Standards
ZTT offshore and marine cables are produced according to various international standards. It verifies that your network cabling is operating as quickly as it should. The standards and testing allow network cabling to be upgraded to achieve the desired level of speed, efficiency, and productivity. Below are some of the standards we comply with.
IEC – International Electrotechnical Commission
- IEC 60092-3 – Electrical installation in ships – part 3: cables – construction, testing, and installations.
- IEC 60092-350 – Specifically excluded from this standard are data and communications cables, power, control, and instrumentation cables, coaxial cables, and subsea and umbilical cables.
- IEC 60092-351 – Insulating materials for shipboard and offshore units, instrumentation, telephone, power, control, and data cables
- IEC 60092-352 – Criteria for choosing and installing cables in ships’ fixed electrical systems with a maximum voltage rating of 15 kV
- IEC 60092-353 – Non-radial power cables for fixed installations. With extruded solid insulation and voltage ratings between 1 kV and 3 kV. Includes cable made to maintain circuit integrity in case of a fire.

IEC – International Electrotechnical Commission
- IEC 60092-354 – 1 and 3-core power cables with extruded solid insulation, conductor screening, and core screening are used in fixed installations. Have a voltage rating range of 6kV to 30kV.
- IEC 60092-359 Electrical Installations in Ships. Part 359: sheathing materials for shipboard telecommunication and power cables
- IEC 60092-360 – Specifications for the electrical, mechanical, and unique qualities of insulating and sheathing materials. Intended for use in shipboard and stationary and mobile offshore units for instrumentation, telecommunication, power, and control cables.
- IEC 60092-375 – Applies to cables used for interconnecting all types of instrumentation and communication equipment on board ships. Including telephone equipment, and radio-frequency cables whose proper operation is deemed essential for ship safety.
IEC – International Electrotechnical Commission
- IEC 60092-376 – Applicable to cables for control and instrumentation circuits on ships and offshore units, both screened and unscreened
- IEC 60228 – Standard specifies the nominal cross-section areas of conductors in various insulated cables.
- IEC 60331 – Performed to ensure circuit integrity even in the event of a fire.
- IEC 60332-1 – Tests on electric and optical fiber cables, vertical flame propagation for a single insulated wire or cable under fire conditions.
- IEC 60332-3 – Test on wires or cables, electrical or optical, under specified conditions.

IEC – International Electrotechnical Commission
- IEC 60502-1 – Describes power cables with extruded solid insulation that should be built, measured, and tested.
- IEC 60754-2 – Calculating the pH and conductivity of gases to determine their degree of acidity (corrosivity)
- IEC 60793-1-1 – lists documents containing the standard specifications for measuring and testing optical fibers and provides instructions
- IEC 60794-1 – Applies to optical fiber cables used with similar-technology devices and telecommunications equipment.
- IEC 61034-2 – Measuring the smoke density of cables burning under specific circumstances
BS – British Standard Institution is a UK National Standard. Cables manufactured in accordance with BS Standards are respected and recognized throughout the world.
- BS 6883 Cables with elastomer insulation are used for fixed wiring in ships and on portable and permanent offshore units. Test procedures and requirements
- BS 7917 – Provide the finest industry requirements for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of elastomer-insulated fire-resistant cables.
- BS 7846 – Defines the design and performance criteria for thermosetting insulated, armored, fire-resistant cables with rated voltages of 600/1 000 V. Low emission of smoke and corrosive gases when affected by the fire.

JIS – Japanese Industrial Standard
- JIS C 3410:2018 – Standard that details the flexible cords, insulated wires, and cables used in ship electrical installations.
- JIS C 3411 : 2018 – Electrical installations in ships – General construction and test methods ofpower, control and instrumentation cables for shipboard and offshore applications
- JIS C 3005 – Test methods for rubber or plastic insulated cables and wires
Norwegian Electrotechnical Committee (NEK)
NEK TS 606 is a offshore cable standard that covers the basic requirements for halogen free and/or mud resistant low voltage and high voltage power, control, lighting, instrumentation, and more cables.
NEK TS 606 specifies a number of cable types, generally based on the IEC 60092 -350, -360 and -370 series, intended for application on offshore installations. The purpose of the Technical Specification is to give the user a selection of cables, which meets the requirements for installation on mobile and fixed offshore units.
